George Vanderbilt’s historic country estate in Asheville, North Carolina is known as America’s largest home. This national historic landmark is an amazing destination offering a wide range of activities for all ages.

On our most recent visit, we especially enjoyed partaking in a couple of the special behind-the-scenes tours, including the Rooftop Tour which Rob really enjoyed as it focused on the design and construction of the house. I (Julie) loved the Backstairs Tour of rarely seen domestic staff’s areas for an in-depth look at what it was like to work at the estate in the Vanderbilts’ era.

Besides the home tours, there is so much to do on the property, and so many ways to enjoy the acres of natural beauty.
We chose to do a fun Segway tour, which took us to areas of the estate not accessible otherwise. (Note: it does not appear that they are currently offering the Segway tours at this time.) We also rented bikes allowing us to make our way around the property to see much more than we could have on foot. We also spent time on a relaxing stroll through all of the beautiful gardens.

We had a great time at Antler Hill Village, where we visited the winery, checked out all of the cute farm animals, and relaxed with coffees while listening to live music amongst the beautiful blooms!

The Biltmore estate is a perfect destination for a long weekend getaway!
